Thanksgiving Prep

Thanksgiving is just two days away, and the anticipation is in the air! As the season transitions from the vibrant colors of fall to the cooler embrace of late November, it’s the perfect time to finalize your preparations for this cherished holiday. Amid the hustle of holiday decor, travel plans, and family dynamics, let’s take a moment to focus on gratitude and thoughtful planning to create a memorable gathering.

Finalizing Your Gathering Plans

Consider the type of celebration you’re hosting. Is it formal, casual, or potluck? If you haven’t already, confirm your guest list and ensure everyone has RSVP’d. Don’t forget to ask about dietary restrictions or special diets to accommodate your loved ones. With flu, RSV, and COVID-19 cases still circulating, keep health and safety in mind, and get creative with your gathering ideas if needed.

Before Thanksgiving

  • Prepare Appetizers & Sauces: Focus on dishes that improve with time, such as cranberry sauce or marinades.

  • Toast Bread or Make Cornbread: Ready these for your dressing or stuffing.

  • Make Pie Crusts: Assemble and refrigerate for baking on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Start Brining Your Turkey: If you’re brining, begin the process now. Remove innards and ties/clamps, rinse thoroughly, and soak the turkey in a brining solution for 12-48 hours in the refrigerator.

One Day Before Thanksgiving

  • Set Your Table: Arrange serving dishes and utensils with labels to keep everything organized.

  • Clean & Prep Vegetables: Wash and store them in the refrigerator.

  • Review Recipes: Double-check your ingredient lists.

  • Prepare Desserts: Bake or assemble desserts and store them appropriately.

  • Chill Beverages: Make sure wine, cocktails, or other drinks are ready to serve.

Thanksgiving Day

Start the day with gratitude for your food, your guests, and the year’s unique moments. Depending on your turkey size, begin cooking early:

Turkey Cooking Times at 325°F:

  • 8-12 lbs. 2 hours 45 minutes-three and half hours

  • 12-14 lbs. 3 hours forty-five minutes- 4 hours

  • 14-18 lbs. 4 hours to 4 hours and thirty minutes

  • 18-20 lbs. 4 and half hours to 5 hours

  • 20-24 lbs. 4 hours 45 minutes to 5 and half hours

Once cooked (internal temperature 165°F), let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving. During this time:

  • Prepare Fresh Sides: Cook vegetables and reheat any prepared dishes.

  • Warm the Rolls: Ensure everything is hot and ready for serving.

  • Fill Glasses & Brew Coffee: Add a festive touch to your table.

The Big Moment

Carve the turkey, arrange the sides, and gather your guests. Take a moment to marvel at the meal you’ve created and the loved ones around you. Raise a toast to a beautiful Thanksgiving celebration, and enjoy every bite!

Wishing you a joyful and delicious Thanksgiving!
