FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you take insurance?

I currently do not take insurance. Through personalization with each client, I take the additional time required to reveal diet and lifestyle imbalances, steps that a 15 minute visit with a traditional provider may miss. Advanced nutrition testing can provide valuable information to create personalized medical nutrition therapy. Unfortunately, it does not usually fit the conventional insurance model. I can provide a Superbill however with descriptive details such as procedure and diagnostic codes that you may then submit to your insurance to be counted as Health flexible benefits or out of network benefits under your plan. I appreciate that you understand my approach.

I don’t like to cook, are you going to make me cook everything?

Teaching you simple recipes and ways to feel and be nourished by food is part of my work with you. I do provide services to help you prep your meals at home or do that for you as well as resources for purchasing prepared meals to be picked up or delivered according to your needs.

Are you going to give me a bag of supplements to take?

Thinking supplements can substitute for nutrient-dense, whole food diet is not a good plan. Carefully used to correct deficiencies, supplements may have a place in your overall wellness plan. I may suggest these as part of your treatment plan if testing indicates. I will pledge supplement sources that are tested and verified.

Will I have to record everything I eat?

Are you a stress eater, do you skip meals and then feel ravenous all at once? Do you eat the same 3 vegetables every week? Becoming mindful of where our food comes from, how you feel when you eat it and how it nourishes the body all provide good opportunities to pay closer attention to how we feel. These details give us clues as to where we might put our focus for changes and modifications.

How do you know about diet and treatment?

Registered Dietitians know the science of nutrition and food. They have degrees in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or related fields from well-respected, accredited colleges and universities. I am registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration.

Will I have to give up my favorite foods?

Through a good initial intake and possible nutrient and metabolic testing, we can identify places of weakness in your diet as well as the stress and sleep habits that may be contributing to your imbalance. Nutrient-dense whole foods are best; food as medicine rings true. Whole food diets can reduce inflammation and positively support emotional and cognitive functions. By limiting inflammatory foods and increasing nutrient density quick changes in health markers and weight can be realized. Grown and raised from the ground up, real food offers a full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fats as well as phytochemicals that work together in your body for optimal health.
